Stallman - I understand the hatred for the FOSS community
I see wonderful, articulate posts from tech industry leaders and free software contributors about why RMS had to resign and why he has done untold damage to the free software community.
Then I see hundreds of comments on those posts howling in anguish over the SJWs ruining tech and driving Stallman out, and all these diversity policies that are terribly unfair to men.
Maybe we need to burn the whole industry to ashes and start over. 😢
What RMS, Torvalds and the like cost us
For every gross dude you tolerate, there's almost certainly several people who are pushed out of that space you created for him
The more influential the gross dude, the more people will emulate him and help to push out even more people
And it's mostly women who get pushed out
So for the likes of RMS and Torvalds, the damage they have done to the field of Computer Science may be incalculable
f capitalism - now Kickstarter
Kickstarter fires two union organizers.
The fight for diversity, equality and inclusion is the fight for software freedom. Our movement will only be successful if it includes everyone. RMS does not speak for these values.
Do all these libertoddlers think capitalism is still the engine of innovation? Y’all loving your ISPs? Your Airlines? Your AAA games? Your jackless Iphones that force u to buy dickish AirPods then brick after 3 years? Y’all loving fighting w your insurance providers or just letting your diabetes kill u in your sleep? Y’all stoked over Utube, Amazon, Disney, Apple, Hulu, Sony, Sling wtf that is, CBS etc divvying up ur shows so you’re monthly streaming bill is 5x higher than any cable package??
I wrote about how we, F/LOSS lovers, need to drop toxic 'heroes' and need to either reform or move on from organizations that WON'T help https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/intersection-poc-floss
On political hegemony and common sense
I've been talking and thinking about political hegemony a lot and I just wanna clarify what I mean with a historical tidbit:
In 1919, during the Seattle general strike, dockworkers refused to load ships with arms to be shipped to the Russian White Army. The same thing happened in the UK in 1920.
This is how much the laborer's common sense was dictated by leftist values--they recognized solidarity with Russian workers and peasants; that they were closer to them than the American nouveau rich.
They didn't think about the "job creators." They didn't worry about capital flight--neoliberal hegemony hadn't arrived yet. They intuitively understood class war.
We're not even close to that today. I can't imagine my *union coworkers* collectively refusing to do something like this--we're haunted by layoffs, being blacklisted by general contractors, losing low-level security clearances, etc.
But that's exactly where our political mindset needs to be.
The best propaganda is the propaganda you don't notice. Which is why you need to mute and block any/all commercials. Don't just ignore it. They're chipping away at you.
If you can't mute, reply to it. Yes, talk to the tv. Make the fearmongering sound silly, aggressively regect the rhetorical questions, groan when a man is useless at housework. Get the whole car/house in on it.
If you haven't heard of KaiOS before, you probably think Firefox OS is entirely dead. But actually, as a fork of B2G, KaiOS has silently grown to a user base of more than 100 million people on devices from more than 10 manufacturers, making it the third most-popular mobile OS after Android and iOS now.
They just launched proper developer docs, as well as an app store:
Mastodon client for KaiOS, when? All JS/Web clients should work.
